From the Caves of Altamira to the Architecture of Calatrava: Spanish History through Art

Learn about Spanish history at the Hudson Library & Historical Society on Thursday, February 2 at 7 p.m. “From the Caves of Altamira to the Architecture of Calatrava: Spanish History through Art” will be presented by Kristina Mogen.
The Caves of Altamira is famous for its Upper Paleolithic, multicolored cave paintings of wild mammals and human hands. Found in 1880, it was the first cave in which prehistoric paintings were discovered. The art in the caves were controversial because at the time, people did not believe that “cave people” could create ‘”art”.
Santiago Calatrava is an internationally recognized architect, sculptor and structural engineer. His work ranges from the Galleria of Toronto to the Alamillio Bridge in Seville, Spain, the art museum in Milwaukee and Peace Bridge in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
Mogen will combine her passions and knowledge of history, travel and art to discuss the long and rich history of the many artists that have called themselves Spanish. She is a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and taught Art History in Akron and has taught at the American International School in New Delhi, India. Mogen’s professional awards include “Teacher of the Year.”
