Wedgewood United Methodist Church, is holding its annual summer day camps in July.
Camp Fun & Son is for any child age 6 through 11 and stresses fun in a safe environment and family values.
Camp sessions begin on June 29, July 6, July 13, and July 20. Each camp session is five days, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a trained staff. Each week has a different theme.
Camp Fun & Son costs $50 for a five-day week, to cover the church’s costs.
The church is at 2350 Wedgewood Dr., in the Ellet area of Akron. It is near the E. Market Street and Mogadore exits off Interstate 77.
The Butterfly House opens July 6 at the Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve. Hours, through Sept. 13, are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free, and the facility is handicapped accessible.
Beech Creek Botanical Garden is at 11929 Beech St. NE in Washington Township, near Alliance.

Stark Parks’ Junior Rangers is a series of nature-based programs for children ages 8-12 to learn about plants, wildlife, and other nature topics through hands-on activities. The sessions are from 10 to 11 a.m. July 6, July 20, Aug. 3 and Aug. 17 at Exploration Gateway in Sippo Lake Park.
Cost is $5 per child per session.

Visitors can discover what life was like aboard a working Great Lakes freighter, the William G. Mather, when they explore the 1925-built Mather from bow to stern and see its huge cargo holds, brass and oak pilot house, elegant guest quarters and four-story engine room. They also can walk the decks and marvel at the “engineering firsts” that helped transform Northeast Ohio into a great industrial center.
The Mather is docked at 305 Mather Way (old Erieside Avenue), north of the Great Lakes Science Center.

Beginning July 6, Stark Parks is offering an eight-hour Ohio boater education course, required for persons born on or after Jan. 1, 1982, who want to operate a boat of 10 HP or more. A written multiple choice test will be given at the end of the course. Fee of $5 per person or $15 per family maximum. This course runs three evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Exploration Gateway at 5712 12th St. NW in Perry Township. Reservations are required at www.StarkParks.com or (330) 477-3552.
