A golf scramble fundraiser for Ed Frank, who is battling stage four follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma, will take place July 10 at the Sanctuary Golf Club at 2017 Applegrove St. NW in North Canton.
Registration, with coffee and doughnuts, is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m. There will be food at the turn and dinner afterwards. There also will be door prizes, skill prizes, mulligans, a 50/50 drawing and more.
Cost is $75 per player, or $300 per foursome. Dinner only, at 2:30 p.m., is $30.

The 25th annual Great Mohican Indian Pow-Wow will happen July 10-12 and Sept. 18-20 at the Mohican Reservation Campgrounds at 23270 Wally Rd. S in Loudonville. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 10 and July 11, and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 12.
Pow-wows are the coming together of native American tribes to honor their ancestors and renew their traditions and heritage through dancing, singing, music, dress and food.
A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.
Stark Parks’ Nature Rangers program for children ages 4 through 7 introduces nature concepts and animals.
Two identical sessions, at 10 and 11:30 a.m. on the same day, are offered each week. Class dates are June 12, June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21
The program is held at Exploration Gateway, at 5712 12th St. NW in Perry Township.

Visitors can discover what life was like aboard a working Great Lakes freighter, the William G. Mather, when they explore the 1925-built Mather from bow to stern and see its huge cargo holds, brass and oak pilot house, elegant guest quarters and four-story engine room. They also can walk the decks and marvel at the “engineering firsts” that helped transform Northeast Ohio into a great industrial center.
The Mather is docked at 305 Mather Way (old Erieside Avenue), north of the Great Lakes Science Center.
JoyFest 2009 happens July 9-12 on the Kresge block on Market Avenue N in downtown Canton. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Events include a sweet potato pie and pound cake contest, rib burnoff, youth talent show, rides, games and live music.
Scheduled entertainment includes Shari Addison of BET’s “Sunday’s Best” on July 9, Lee Williams and Spiritual QC’s on July 10, youth talent show and 21:03 on July 11 and Helen Baylor on July 12.

The Council of Italian-American Societies’ 62nd annual Italian-American Festival will take place July 10 -12 at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.
Hours are 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4 to midnight July 10; noon to midnight July 11; and noon to 9 p.m. July 12.
Great food and entertainment will include pizza-eating contest, a homemade wine making contest, a car show, a spaghetti dinner, a wine tasting event, bocce and morra tournaments, children’s entertainment, food vendors, bands and musical and dance acts, the Budweiser Clydesdales, and fireworks at 10 p.m. July 11.
Admission is free.
The Olde Canal Days Festival will take place 5 to 11 p.m. July 9, and all day July 10 and July 11.
It will feature the Miss Olde Canal Days junior and senior queen pageant, live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, food, the Grande Parade and the Firemen’s Parade, a Civil War encampment, Bates Amusements, party animals, Inflatables and fireworks.
Admission is free.
The festival is in St. Helena Heritage Park, on Cherry Street in Canal Fulton.

The first WACO Military Experience, a military show and swap meet, will take place July 10, 11 and 12 in Troy, home of the WACO Aircraft Company. The WACO Military Experience will be at historic WACO Field, site of the WACO Air Museum at 1865 S. County Rd. 25A in Troy. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. July 10 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 and July 12.
Military displays include vintage aircraft representing 20th century conflicts along with authentically restored military vehicles.
Rodman Library will host a brown bag lunch for children ages 5 and older from noon to 1 p.m. July 10 on the library lawn at 215 E. Broadway St. In case of rain, lunch will be in the Children’s Program Room.
Bring your own brown bag lunch and a beverage.
After lunch and stories, children will make a craft item in the Children’s Program Room.
Additional brown bag lunches will take place on each Friday in July from noon to 1p.m.

The 23rd annual Stark County Italian-American Festival will be held from 4 p.m. to midnight July 10, noon to midnight July 11 and noon to 9 p.m. July 12 at the Stark County Fairgrounds, at 305 Wertz Ave. NW in Canton.
The event will feature entertainment stages, food, dancing, a bocce tournament, an exotic Italian car show, rides and more.
Admission is $5 per person, which includes parking, all rides for all day and all entertainment. Admission is free for children ages 3 and younger and for senior citizens 62 and older.
The Screaming Tiki Cleveland Super Con Comics, Toys and Pop Culture Convention will take place July 10, 11 and 12 in the Halle Building at 1228 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland.
The event will honor Cleveland’s own creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Appearing will be Edward James Olmos, Sam Witwer, Helen Slater, Michael Rosenbaum, Daniel Logan, Erin Gray, and Ray Park.

The 120th annual St. Louis Family Festival will be held July 10-12 on the St. Louis Church grounds in downtown Louisville. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. July 10 and 11, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 12.
St. George Romanian Orthodox Church holds a fish fry fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.
The menu is baked or beer-batter fish dinner, $10, or Romanian chicken and mamaliga dinner, $8, which include side dishes, coleslaw, Italian bread, coffee and tea.
Carryout is available.
Funds raised are used for the parish food pantry and outreach in the local community.

Stark Parks invites area anglers of all ages to a Night Fishing Derby on Friday, July 10 from 6 p.m. to Midnight. Cost is $5 per person and everyone 16 and over must show their fishing license.
