The 44th annual Northeast Ohio Photography Show at the Canton Jewish Community Center will run from Feb. 5 through Feb. 25. The Jewish Center, at 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A special preview for entrants, sponsors, patrons and donors will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.

“Does your child have a reading problem?” is a free workshop on vision and reading from 9:15 to 10:50 a.m. Feb. 20. at the officer of optometrist Dr. Joseph Pederzolli at 32 E. Broadway St. in Alliance.
In this workshop you will learn about the many studies stating that certain vision problems should be treated first, before tutoring or special instruction.
A reading problem checklist of a child’s behavior includes:
- Takes “hours” to do homework that should take a few minutes.
- Skips words or lines while reading. Often overlooks or misreads short words.
The Greater Canton Writer’s Guild is offering a workshop tiled “Writing Memoirs” on Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM at the North Canton Library located at 185 N. Main St., N. Canton, OH.
The workshop features local writer Namiko Golden, author of “A Crystal Seal” and poet Nancy Welch. Time will be available for one-on-one interaction with the authors.
Canton Area Assocation for the Educaiton of Young Children is hosting a Junk to Jewels event. Save the trash, the environment and children's creativity all at the same time! Reduce, recycle and renew junk into learning projects and props for children of various ages. Come ready for this hands-on experience designed to support the gudliness and standards from infants to school age children. Actvities and handouts will be divided into appropriate age groups and all activites will be shown how they support guidelines and standards.

A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.
Summit Cycling Center is seeking donation of used bicycles, tricycles and cycling-related equipment to support its program of providing bicycles at little or no cost according to community needs.
Summit Cycling Center is a local nonprofit organization that provides bicycle safety and mechanical training, promotes transportation alternatives and provides bicycles at little or no cost based on Akron area community needs. Some used bicycles are used for community program training purposes. Other bicycles will be rebuilt and sold or given away in the Akron area.
This program will be presented by Judge David E. Stucki. He will speak about the changes in cases and laws and their effets on the people involved.
Any woman with at least a bachelor's degree is welcome to attend.

WHEN A LOVED ONE DIES...
often we are surprised by the thoughts and feelings that sweep over us. Our culture tells us to "be strong," which sometimes means to stop grieving. But as Grief Share knows, sometimes one of the best ways to cope with grief from the death of a loved one is to talk about your pain with others who care. This is the reason why The Chapel in North Canton is offering to the public this nationally recognized grief support program called Grief Share.
WHAT IS GRIEF SHARE:
Casting Directors will be at Fairfield Commons Mall in Dayton from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 20 seeking resourceful, ambitious, ingenious individuals who possess the skills required to rebuild a society.
The participants will once again live together in a post-apocalyptic world for 50 to 70 days with scarce resources and the absence of even the most basic of services. Here, they will re-imagine and re-engineer their lives. Participants must be willing to engage fully in this experiment for the entire duration.

“The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, is on view from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays Feb. 6 through April 2 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.
Admission is free.
McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.
On Saturdays and Sundays in January and February from noon to 3 p.m., you can experience the thrill of hand-feeding wild birds at Beech Creek Botanical Gardens and Nature Preserve, at 11929 Beech St. NE in Washington Township, just outside Alliance.
Volunteers will be available to coach you on attracting chickadees to feed from your hand.
The bird feeder is just across the bridge, about a quarter mile from the parking lot.
Dress for the weather. We will provide bird seed, a fire, and a warm beverage.

Join Cincinnati yoga instructor Jen Lile for a playful, joyful, beach-inspired yoga and meditation practice to benefit and celebrate Ocean Cure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free surf camps to medically fragile and at-risk youth. The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, at 600 Monroe St. in Dover.
Bring a beach towel, a yoga mat (or another towel) and a sunny attitude. Feel free to wear a bathing suit under your winter clothes.

Environment Investigators: Winter Tracking

This program is for children with adults. We will learn the different walking styles of the active animals of winter. Using a track guide, we will go outside to find and identify tracks in the snow and/or animal signs. Dress for the weather! We will spend about 45 minutes indoors and 45 minutes outside. Free.

The Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club’s seventh annual Polar Bear Jump will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 20.
Registration is at 12:30 p.m. There is a $25 minimum donation to register. Participants may raise donations in the form of cash, checks and pledges.

This weekend the Lions Lincoln Theatre will show “Back to the Future” at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20 and 6 p.m. Feb. 21.
In this classic sci-fi adventure from director Robert Zemeckis, eccentric inventor Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) turns a DeLorean into a time machine that inadvertently sends his young friend, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), 30 years into the past. While stuck in the 1950s, Marty disrupts his parents' destiny and risks throwing the time-space continuum completely out of whack. The only way back to 1985 now is to get mom and dad to pucker up.
The annual Black Student Union Fashion Show, co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and the Raider Programming Board, will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Mount Union Theatre.
This year’s theme, “Ladies and Gents: Pressed and Polished,” will feature clothing and accessories from American Commodore Tuxedo, Dillard’s and the Mount Union Bookstore.
