The Celtic Club is sponsoring the St. Pet’s Day food donation drive from March 8 through March 17.

Residents can donate dry dog and cat food and cat litter at their local fire station, in most cases, March 8 through March 12, and March 15 through March 17 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Donations also can be dropped off in the front lobby of the Repository.

Donations will benefit local humane and pet rescue groups.

Drop-off sites include:

• Alliance fire station, 63 E. Broadway St.
• Canal Fulton fire station (March 15 through March 17), 1165 Locust St. NW.

Kindergarten Open House for prospective students is Thursday, March 11, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Parents and preschoolers will see a Chapel service presented by Mrs. Darla Richard's kindergarten class, tour the building, enjoy a snack, and learn about an education at Heritage Christian School. Friends and family of Lee Samblanet, who died of a rare cancer in 2007, have organized their annual blood drive in tribute to him.

The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 11 at Alliance Community Hospital.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, or 16 if they provide a permission slip from a parent or guardian. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. A photo ID or donor card must be presented at the time of the donation.

Canton Symphony Orchestra presents SymphonyLand, a fun way to introduce children (ages 4-8) to instrumental sounds. This exhibit concentrates on the extremely important, but nonpolitical role that First Ladies play in international diplomatic relationships for our country. This exhibit will feature First Ladies Elizabeth Monroe, Harriet Lane, Helen Taft, Lou Hoover, Jackie Kennedy, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter and Hillary Clinton. On display will be gifts given to First Ladies from various countries around the world on loan from Presidential Libraries and Museums.

“The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, is on view from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays Feb. 6 through April 2 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.

McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.

The Massillon Parks and Recreation Department and Jump Start Sports have combined forces to offer a Speed Training and Conditioning Program at Paul L. David Athletic Training Center. Classes will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This program will work on speed training, agility and conditioning to help athletes ages 8-14 take their game to the next level. This month's meeting of the Stark County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society, will be held on March 11, 2010. There will be refreshments served beginning at 6:30pm. At 7pm there will be a short business meeting, followed by the program. The program will be "Improving Your Genealogical Research on the Internet" and will be presented by Roger Marble will be showing us some new intriguing ways in which we can improve our genealogical research through the use of the internet.

A grief workshop will be conducted from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and 28, Feb. 11 and 25, March 11 and 25, April 8 and 22, and May 6 and 20 at Greensburg United Methodist Church at 2161 Greensburg Rd. in Green.
