Mercy Medical Center of Tuscarawas County will offer low-cost blood screenings on Friday, March 12 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The facility, located at 1031 West High Ave., New Philadelphia, will be offering total cholesterol screening for $2, glucose screening (blood sugar) for $2, and lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL) for $8.

The Celtic Club is sponsoring the St. Pet’s Day food donation drive from March 8 through March 17.
Residents can donate dry dog and cat food and cat litter at their local fire station, in most cases, March 8 through March 12, and March 15 through March 17 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Donations also can be dropped off in the front lobby of the Repository.
Donations will benefit local humane and pet rescue groups.
Drop-off sites include:
• Alliance fire station, 63 E. Broadway St.
• Canal Fulton fire station (March 15 through March 17), 1165 Locust St. NW.

Held from 8 am to 11 am, cost is $2 for total cholesterol, $2 for Glucose (blood sugar), and $8 for a complete lipid profile. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. This exhibit concentrates on the extremely important, but nonpolitical role that First Ladies play in international diplomatic relationships for our country. This exhibit will feature First Ladies Elizabeth Monroe, Harriet Lane, Helen Taft, Lou Hoover, Jackie Kennedy, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter and Hillary Clinton. On display will be gifts given to First Ladies from various countries around the world on loan from Presidential Libraries and Museums.

Nationally renowned jewelry artists and exhibitors will present at GemStreet USA Show & Sale on March 12-14 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea.
The show offers an eclectic array of faceted gemstones, crystals, pearls, beads, silver, gold, pewter, copper, petrified wood and unique jewelry using beadwork techniques, wire wrapping and sculpting.

The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two youth basketball programs on Friday evenings, March 5-April 9 at the Massillon Recreation Center. Little Hoop Stars will be 5:30-6:30 pm and Hoop Stars will be 6:30-7:30 pm. Little Hoop Stars is designed to teach ages 4-6 the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding in a fun-oriented atmosphere. Hoop Stars will teach 1st and 2nd graders more of the basketball basics and includes low-competition games so players can learn to apply their skills in a game format.
The Domestic Violence Project will hold its Hearts with Hope benefit dinner and auction at 5:30 p.m. March 12 at the University Center on the Kent State University Stark Campus, at 6000 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township.

The O’Hare Irish Dance Booster Club is holding “The Rhythm of Ireland — An Evening of Irish Music and Dance” on March 12 at the Ann Amer Brennan Theater at Our Lady of Elms High School, 1375 W. Exchange St., Akron, to support the dancers traveling overseas. The Rhythm of Ireland includes performances by the O’Hare Irish Dancers, the Summit Choral Society’s Masterworks Chorale Chamber Singers, the Hired Hands Celtic Harpists and Irish tenor Pat Flynn. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner, provided by the Barley House, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the show at 8 p.m.
The East Central Ohio Pilot’s Association invites all members, guests and interested persons to its annual awards and membership meeting at 6 p.m. March 12 at Skyland Pines, 3550 Columbus Rd. NE, Canton.
The speaker will be Brian Binnie, who served as a U.S. Navy aviator, including combat missions during the Gulf War. A program manager and test pilot for Scaled Composites, Binnie flew the experimental air-launched rocket-powered aircraft SpaceshipOne on its inaugural test flight in 2003.

In recognizing March as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month in Ohio, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is asking artists to join in the “It’s a Green World: MS Awareness Art Exhibit” and art auction.

The class is designed to help prepare young children for the new
arrival. This is a special time for mom and dad to accompany children on a tour of the unit and learn more about becoming a big brother or big sister.
