First Night Akron is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the New Year through the arts that brings the community together to experience a brief moment in time while creating lasting memories. First Night will happen Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. to midnight.
First Night introduces guests to nearly 70 talented artists and performers from the Northeast Ohio region. Attendees of all ages enjoy an affordable evening of nonstop, diverse quality entertainment in downtown Akron.
First Night Akron admission buttons are $10, and free for children younger than 10.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a special visit to 2nd April Galerie & Studios between 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
Those attending are invited to bring their cameras for pictures, and activities will be offered for the children. Those who donate a nonperishable food item for the Stark County Hunger Task Force will receive a 10-percent discount off any single item in the gallery and studios.
The gallery and studios are located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW.
The McFadden Gallery will feature senior student portfolio exhibits from now until the end of the semester. The work of Vana Morgan, a senior exercise science major and art minor from Homeworth, OH and Holly Reiber, a senior visual arts education major from Avon Lake, OH will be on display from November 15 through 30. The work of Faith Wieder, a senior art major from Canton, OH will be on display from December 4 through 15. The Senior Portfolio exhibits are a requirement for senior art and visual art education majors.
Malone University is teaming up with Hammer & Nails by hosting a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting their nonprofit Hammer & Nails organization. The event will feature creative skills from Malone University students and independent artists from our community. Local businesses will also be featured for various donated bid items. This auction is going to have amazing deals on gift baskets, artwork, and other unique items.
Coleman Foundation announces the first annual J.O.B.S. (Jump On Board to Success) benefit to be held on November 17, 2009 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, 520 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, live music, raffles, a Chinese Auction while surrounded by the finest of contemporary and historical photography. Admission is $25 per person.
Rodman Library will hold a card class in November using basic techniques for rubber stamping and scrapbooking. Projects will be demonstrated in this ‘make-and-take’ class using the ‘wax paper resist’ technique.
The class will be open to adults and teens. It will be held on Saturday, November 21 at 1 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium.
Trick-Or-Treat at 2nd April Galerie, Studios and Annex will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.
Kids of all ages are welcome to join goulish friends for a wickedly fun evening at 2nd April Galerie and Studios. Tricks or treats will be served.
Some fiendish artists will be on hand demonstrating their devilish craft.
Costumes are optional, fun is mandatory.
