Amish Door Village dinner/theater
The Amish Door Village opens its 2010 entertainment season with the romantic comedy “My Name is Ruth,” performed Jan. 29 and 30 and March 25, 26 and 27, following a home-cooked Amish meal. Special weekday matinees will be performed Jan. 29 and March 26. Evening seating begins at 6:15 p.m. and matinee seating at 12:15 p.m.
Based on the Old Testament story of Ruth, the play is set in the early 1950s with a young Minnesota widow traveling to the big city for a fresh start. When Ruth and her aging mother-in-law fall into dire straits, they need the help of a bashful businessman in order to survive. The unlikely couple forge an alliance, but both will have to sacrifice everything they have in order to save the ones they love.
“My Name is Ruth” is the latest re-imagination from 34west creators Stephen Baldwin and Jeffrey Querin, who started the company 10 years ago in Canfield. Philadelphia actress Magdalyn Donnelly plays the title role, and Querin juggles multiple parts in 34west signature fashion. Baldwin is writer and director.
The Amish Door Restaurant’s meal includes a fresh garden salad and its famous Amish Door pie.
All dinner theaters take place in the Banquet Center of the Amish Door Restaurant at 1210 Winesburg St., U.S. Route 62, in Wilmot.
