The Big Read Kicks off at the Massillon Museum on Sunday, February 28, from 2:00 to 5:00. The free public event includes free copies of this year's book selection, "The Shawl," by Cynthia Ozick; a speaker, Betty Gold; music by a string quartet from the Canton Symphony Orchestra; a performance by the Manchester Dance Troupe; and additional activities related to the Holocaust and the book. The Big Read is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts to help Americans return to leisure reading. Massillon Public Library and Kent State University Stark Campus are collaborating on this year's month-long celebration.
