Folk Music at Rodman Library
Local musicians John Whitacre and Dennis Kempthorne will present traditional folk tunes from the British Isles when they visit the library on Monday, July 13 from 6:30-8 p.m.
The two musicians share a love of the British Isles and early American music and find their greatest joy in playing tunes. They have played for dances, private parties, schools, festivals and weddings.
Whitacre began playing violin in fifth grade and guitar in ninth. He played in school orchestras, the Canton Youth Symphony and the Tuscarawas Philharmonic. Whitacre plays violin, mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mountain dulcimer and guitar. He played in his first traditional music session at Quail Hollow in 1989.
Kempthorne became fascinated with traditional music in the early 1980s through contra dancing and then discovering that friends would get together and play this music for hours at their homes. He plays guitar, fiddle, and bass.
The program will take place in the auditorium at the Main Library. No registration is required.
