Harvest for Hunger Idol event

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will be hosting the Harvest for Hunger Idol at 6 p.m. March 24 at the Akron Civic Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Performers from local businesses and organizations holding Harvest for Hunger food and funds drives will compete to raise the most dollars to support hunger-relief efforts. Spectators of the event can vote for their favorite performer. Each dollar donated counts as one vote, and the performer who collects the most donations the night of the event will be crowned the Harvest for Hunger Idol.
Admission is $3.
The theater is at 182 S. Main St. in Akron.

The Harvest for Hunger Idol is one component of the 2010 Harvest for Hunger Campaign. Businesses, school organizations and families are holding food and funds drives during the month of March.

Local supermarket chains including Acme Fresh Markets, Buehler’s Fresh Foods, Dave’s Supermarkets, Fishers Foods, Giant Eagle, and Heinen’s Fine Foods are participating in Check Out Hunger, which allows shoppers to scan coupons and make donations of $1, $5, or $10 at the check out registers. Check Out Hunger runs through April 10.

The 2010 Harvest for Hunger goal for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is to raise $700,000 in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.
