History of Fairmount Program

Local resident Carolyn Caskey will visit Rodman Public Library on Saturday, March 20 for a presentation on the early history and little known facts of the Fairmount Children’s Home.

She will recount the beginnings of the home from when the Rakestraws bought the property and what it was like, selling the property, and naming of the home.

Caskey will also talk about the construction of the buildings, which weren’t all built at the same time, and the superintendents and their problems.

Accompanying the discussion will be pictures from the early 1900s and on, both as slides and on display.

Anyone who lived at the home is welcome to attend and share their reminiscences with others in attendance.

The program will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, in the Main Library Auditorium.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the library at 330-821-2665, ext. 101.
