Organic Gardening Techniques workshop
Are you looking for ideas on how to expand your home garden? Or are you starting from scratch and needing some help developing your green thumb? Local Roots has several classes and talks on gardening scheduled (and in the works) for 2010.
At 7 p.m. Feb. 11, Local Roots board member Monica Bongue will begin a series on organic gardening techniques. She will share some of things she has learned over her years of organic farming at Muddy Fork Farm in Wooster.
Bongue is the president of the Real F.O.O.D. chapter of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, which also meets at Local Roots the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
The cost for the session is $2 for Local Roots members and $4 for nonmembers; a second session will be held March 11 at 7 p.m.
All workshops will be held at Local Roots Market, at 140 S. Walnut St. in Wooster.
Additional workshops are planned for later in the spring and summer; visit the Web site at www.localrootswooster.com to find out more.
As a year-round farmers’ market in downtown Wooster, Local Roots will provide a central hub for area producers to sell fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and other Ohio-grown agricultural products. Beginning in January, the market will be open only on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as a store with pickup for online orders.
The cooperative is open for membership and invites interested producers and consumers to visit the Web site /www.localrootswooster.com for details on the benefits of Local Roots membership.
