Women in Democracy Celebration
A "Women in Democracy" Celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at
Fairlawn Country Club, at 200 N. Wheaton Rd. in Akron. The event is open to the public
The League of Women Voters of the Akron Area is honoring all locally elected women as we celebrate their service to our community. They are City and County Council Members, County Prosecutors, Judges and Mayors, School Board Members Township Trustees along with Congresswoman Betty Sutton and State Auditor Mary Taylor.
We have invited all women in elective office to celebrate our mutual commitment to our community, and to recognize it would not be possible for them to hold such an office had it not been for the courage and determination of the foremothers of the League. Join us as we celebrate our mutual efforts to improve our democracy and strengthen our communities.
Bring your mothers, sisters and daughters to celebrate these women, not only for their service to our communities, but also the fact that they CAN serve.
Reservations can be made by sending a check for $15 per person to: LWVAA, 380 Mineola Avenue, Akron, OH 44320 by Feb. 22.
This event is part of a yearlong celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the League of Women Voters and the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, a woman's right to vote. From the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848, the women of the suffrage movement waged a long courageous battle for 72 years until their final victory in 1920 and the establishment of the League of Women Voters.
