Aultman - Teen Diabetic Support Group

Aultman Hospital realizes it’s tough to be a teen – and their parents – especially when managing a chronic condition such as diabetes.

A free support group is planed for kids ages 12-17 with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes as a safe, comfortable place to learn and share.

According to Aultman’s Child Life Specialist Holly Bryan-Huth, the group will be interactive and fun – including education, guest speakers and discussion.

“Because diabetes is a largely self-managed disease, education is an essential component of care,” said Bryan-Huth. “Kids also need to understand they are not alone. They need to talk to their peers about it too.”

A parent or guardian must accompany children to the support group. Adults will enjoy their own educational sessions to learn how to help their children manage diabetes.

The group will meet the third Thursday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Diabetes Education Room on the ground level of Aultman Hospital. Dates are March 18, April 15, May 20, etc.

The Teen Diabetic Support Group is free, but registration is required. Call (330) 363-5235 to register or learn more.
