Concerts and Fireworks July 4 in Alliance

A larger fireworks show along with two concerts and other activities will be featured at Silver Park in Alliance on July 4.
The American Revolution and September 11, 2001, will be the focus of two organizations that will be present at the July Fourth celebration. The 5th Virginia Regiment will set up a camp and demonstrate weapons and skills used during the Revolutionary War.
“93 Cents for Flight 93,” a group associated with the HALO Foundation of Akron, will be present with videos and other information to educate the public about Flight 93 and the National Flight 93 Memorial to be built near Shanksville, Pa., where the plane crashed after it was hijacked by terrorists on 9/11. The group also will accept contributions to help finance the construction of the memorial.
In addition, two firetrucks from the NYFD will be present during the day. The Army will have a climbing wall, t-shirt cannon and a Humvee showing videos.
Activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a Youth Olympics for children ages 6-11. Other activities will include face painting, a nature scavenger hunt and the encampment by the 5th Virginia Regiment.
The Friends of the Park will have a jump house for kids. The cost is $1 and is a fundraiser for the group.
All concerts and fireworks are free.
Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. with a concert by Cherry Red, an area rock group, followed by the presentation of Carnation Queen candidates and a braass band concert.
Featured will be the Brass Band of the Western Reserve under the direction of Keith M. Wilkinson. The band will accompany a flag presentation by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 honor guard, the Scarlet Berets and the 5th Virginia Regiment.
The flag presentation and national anthem will begin at 8 p.m.
Following that, the band will present a concert consisting of Sousa marches, an armed forces salute and several popular brass band arrangements. Fireworks will begin during the playing of John Phillip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Food concessions will be available, and the event is free.
