Dr. Joanne Kilgour Dowdy Will Present Women’s History Month Address at Mount Union
Dr. Joanne Kilgour Dowdy, professor of adolescent and adult literacy at Kent State University will present “One Woman: Two Countries and a Career” at 7:30 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre.
This event is free and open to the public. A native of Trinidad, Dowdy will focus on how she negotiates identity in the United States and Trinidad, and how being Black, female and an immigrant have affected her in her profession. Her major research interests include documenting the experiences of Black women involved in education from adult basic literacy to higher education. Dowdy is the author or editor of five books including In the Public Eye released in October of 2009.
